| DESCRIPTION: |
Ridealong with the race mechanics. Butch Bolzano handles the bike mechanics and maintenance. He and his team of 12 bike mechanics leave early in the morning each racing day from the hotel. They are on duty during the entire races, following at different points along the longer races, positioned in different spots for the shorter ones. He is happy to have people ride along with the mechanics during the races. The mechanics have to change wheels in under 10 seconds but they could be snoozing before and after, waiting for something to happen. When riders have a problem, they signal by raising a hand and someone along the way radios the mechanics to aid the rider. Bolzano says they're the first out and last in every day of the races. |
